FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Who are candidates for spider vein treatment?

Nearly all patients can be treated to eliminate the unsightly veins. The best method and best solution is chosen for each patient, depending upon the vein appearance and location and upon the relative skin color of the patient.

Are there complications?

Fortunately, there are very few problems with spider vein treatments. Of course if there are large numbers of veins, and veins in large clusters, then some of the side effects are more pronounced. Fortunately, nearly all of these side effects resolve spontaneously within one year. Pigment color in the skin is the most common side effect. An occasional small ulcer will develop at the site of treatment, and some swelling and redness often will occur.

Are the treatments painful?

The treatment sessions for varicose veins are usually for about 30 to 45 minutes. The treatments are not considered excessively painful by our patients. No anesthesia is necessary, and our patients may drive to and from the office on spider vein treatment day.

Some of our patients request total sedation while undergoing treatment of venous conditions and these patients can be treated in our state-of-the-art outpatient surgical center.

Do Insurance companies cover the treatment?

Spider veins are considered cosmetic and are not covered by insurance companies. Varicose veins which cause pain, swelling or bleeding are a medical condition and most insurance companies allow for the treatments.

What if I don’t have insurance?

Our care is exceptional and affordable. For those without insurance coverage, we offer a program called CareCredit® which is easily obtainable.
